Welcome to Sherbrooke Academy Junior’s school website!
We are headed in our third year as Sherbrooke Academy Junior and we continue to excel in our endeavours in sustaining a Happy School that engages, enlightens, and empowers our students for 21st century learning.
Our enrolment continues to remain steady at approximately 150 students, with 8 homerooms. Through various grants we welcome a new French Resource Teacher and part-time Kindergarten Behaviour Technician. Our grade 2 classes have been refurnished to accommodate flipped and experiential learning.
We will continue to work with community partners such as Collective Community Services, Missing Children’s Network, and local universities and colleges, to enrich our children’s school experience.
Our professional development focus for teachers and staff continues with Social Emotional Learning (SEL); Solution-Focussed Strategies; Differentiated Learning Strategies in the Classroom; and incorporating technology in the curriculum: Seesaw, Book Creator, and the likes.
All our teachers will be communicating with parents through Seesaw starting this year!
Our theme for this year is Aventure nature … Nature Rocks, which is in line with our school educational project revolves around nature.
Our school code of conduct and anti-bullying and violence plan are based on Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) philosophies. We have are very own in-school Sustainable Happiness Happy Bear PAWS Program. Ask your children to show you our secret handshake, sing our school cheer, or tell you about our mascots Sher Bear and Baby Bear Brooke. Also for general information, kindly peruse the Parent Information Handbook.
New this year will be our very own Bear Dens. Each teacher will be assigned approximately 11 students from kindergarten to grade 2 and will mentor them throughout their 3 years at Sherbrooke Academy Junior. As we implement this new endeavour we will share more information.
For safety and security, kindly note that the school premises will be limited to school busses only between 8:00 and 8:10 and 14:30 and 14:40. During these 10 minute periods - parents using car transportation and wanting to see their children off at the school gate, at this time, are asked to park their cars on the vicinity area streets and walk their children to the school gate. To avoid the traffic at this time around the school, parents are encouraged to take advantage of the school bus services, daycare services (morning: 7:00 – 8:00) (afterschool 14:30 – 18:00) or walking their children to school. Kindly note that we do not have supervised morning drop-off or after school pick-up services.
To keep up-to-date on things, kindly check our website and Facebook page on a regular basis.
Warmest regards and may the PAWS be With You,
Carmela di Iorio
